UNC (Italian Consumers Union), in collaboration with Cuky Cofresco spa and thanks to the active participation of LIFE-Food.Waste.StandUp Partners, realized an information campaign in Umbria Region: the aim was promoting changes in consumers’ behavior and raising awareness about food surplus and waste, among consumers & within the world of catering. This initiative was also supported by several territorial entities and Institutions, such as: Umbra Acque, Felcos Umbria, Confcommercio Umbria, Province of Perugia, Aiab Umbria, Università dei Sapori, Ali, Strada del Sagrantino. For this purpose, 50.000 practical containers called Save Bags were produced, made in 100% recyclable materials: consumers and restaurants of the Region had the chance to use them to recover food leftovers. Restaurants of this Region received Save Bags for free, thus allowing consumers to bring home leftovers; in this way, they avoided food waste, while promoting good behaviours to recover food. The above-mentioned 50.000 Save Bags allowed to retrieve only in Umbria Region 5.000 tons of food which would have otherwise ended up in the trash.
